Reducing Human-Bear Conflicts in Clearwater County Camping Areas

Camping on public land in remote areas along hiking trails has increased since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn about how West Fraser supported the installation of food storage lockers at popular hiking locations in Clearwater County to help reduce human-bear conflict and support healthy bear populations.

This work is supported by West Fraser through fundings from the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA). Ahlstrom Construction and Ahlstrom Air built the concrete bases and flew in the lockers. Ongoing maintenance is managed by Alberta Environment and Parks.
